Juan is Vice President, Head of Strategic Academic Alliances in the Center for External Innovation at Takeda Pharmaceuticals. He is responsible for engaging academic communities in early stage therapeutic discovery and translation alliances, leveraging technology, capabilities and resources from the alliance partners to drive healthcare innovation and pipeline advancement. These alliances include the Tri-Institutional Therapeutics Discovery Institute, Bridge Medicines and Stanford AIM, among others. From 2012 to 2015, he was Vice President, New Frontier Science, where he was responsible for nurturing innovation emerging from academia and start-up companies through partnerships.
Juan started his career at Takeda in 2008 as Vice President, Takeda Ventures, Inc., from 2008 to 2012. Mr. Harrison brings more than 30 years of biopharmaceutical R&D, licensing, business development, investment and strategy experience. Prior to joining Takeda, Mr. Harrison was a partner with ProPharma Partners International, a pharma and biotech strategy advisory firm, led business development at XenoPort Inc., and held senior licensing positions at PowderJect Inc., Connetics Corporation and Alza Corporation. Mr. Harrison received his Bachelor of Sciences in Combined Sciences from Santa Clara University in California, USA.
